The State Duma approved in second and third reading a bill aimed at mitigating penalties for economic crimes. Entrepreneurs and bankers will be able to avoid criminal prosecution in case of damage.
According to the document, to avoid penal sanction, the perpetrator of the crime must indemnify the victim and transfer double the damage to the budget. The measure is valid only if such a violation of the law is committed for the first time.
The bill applies to crimes in the field of illicit business art. (171), banking (Art. 172), as well as when avoiding the repatriation of foreign currency (Art. 193).
As added in the explanatory note, the document is aimed at implementing the presidential decree “On the national development goals of the Russian Federation for the period up to 2030”.
Earlier, Vladimir Putin instructed to introduce changes to the legislation by May 1 that would decriminalize some of the economic crimes committed by businessmen.
