Moderna’s chief medical officer, Dr. Paul Burton believes the company could offer personalized cancer vaccines against multiple types of tumors within five years. He also says that many respiratory infections, such as COVID-19, influenza, and respiratory syncytial virus, can be treated with a single injection.

Burton said that as mRNA-based technology could allow the genetic cause of a disease to be identified and edited, mRNA therapy could also become available to treat rare diseases that currently have no cure.
