Amazon’s Kindle is big business. Both hardware and digital service have changed the way we read books, magazines, comics and other publications. Unfortunately, customers can’t just download Kindle books and read them through any app.

For Digital Rights Management (DRM) reasons, all Kindle e-readers are tied to Kindle hardware. These digital books use Amazon’s own AZW file format, although Kindle tablets also support MOBI files. This makes reading these e-books outside of the Kindle nearly impossible.

But we have good news for you: DRM protection can be removed using free tools, although it is important that you never share your e-books with anyone furtheras it may violate copyright law.

Download the AZW files first

Due to digital rights protection (DRM), e-books simply cannot be downloaded to any computer. Readers must have Kindle hardware linked to their Amazon account. Otherwise, they will see the error message “You have selected content that is not compatible with any of your registered devices.”

However, even if e-books are read through the Kindle app on Windows 10, Android, or iOS, without a Kindle device associated with an Amazon account, e-books cannot be downloaded.

Step 1: After loading the Amazon website, click Nameand then select Check on the menu.

Step 2: Choose Content and device management which appears in the “Digital content and devices” section.

Step 3: press the button Actions on the three dots next to the e-book you want to download, as shown above.

Step 4: Press USB download and transfer in the popup menu.

Step 5: a pop-up window will appear with the selected registered Kindle. Click on the yellow button dismiss.

The AWZ file will be downloaded to the default folder on your PC instead of the specified Kindle device.
