The company has repeatedly requested removal of illegal content, but Dstorage ignored these requests, resulting in a lawsuit.
The Paris Court of Appeal reportedly found the site owners responsible for the game company’s copyright infringement, as they did not remove pirated copies of the projects or block access to them on the 1fichier.com website.
Note that this web service is quite a large file with over 30 million unique visitors per month.
The issue of ignoring removal requests from copyright holders is not new to Dstorage. In 2018, the Entertainment Software Association (ESA) noted that 1fichier removed content in only 0.59% of complaints, and in 2020 that figure had dropped to 0.12%.
