Exactly when deliveries will begin was not specified by Lockheed Martin officials. They explained the delay in the delivery of fighter jets with a change in the development timing of TR3 software and equipment that preceded the upgrade of older F-35s to the Block 4 version. Without this, deliveries of the next-generation F-35s are impossible.

In December 2022, the manufacturer pledged to supply the Air Force with 147 to 153 new fighters by 2023. However, the talk now is that TR3 software development, scheduled for April 2023, should be completed before April 2024.
