Alcohol is a good disinfectant for body surfaces, so the scientists decided to test whether it would be just as effective when inhaled.

During the experiment on mice, a nebulizer was used to produce ethanol vapors. It turned out that experimental animals infected with influenza A and breathing alcohol vapor for 10 minutes recovered from the virus without serious side effects.

To achieve the effect, the ethanol concentration must be 20%. This amount of alcohol was safe for human lung cells and quickly destroyed the virus both outside and inside the cells.

Scientists believe their discovery could be applied to other viruses, including the flu and COVID-19. However, they warn that people should not try ethanol on its own as a treatment. this can lead to dangerous consequences.
