Editors use Open AI’s ChatGPT as “another person on the team” to summarize content. The bot is used to add “sentences and snippets” to articles, subject to basic validity, accuracy and independent verification. This approach differs from, for example, CNET’s practice, a major “under the pen” publication where at least 50% of the articles are written entirely by artificial intelligence.
The convenience of ChatGPT for VentureBeat is that the AI analyzes and summarizes material in “seconds”, not hours. At the same time, editors do not disclose AI-generated content.
However, VentureBeat does not plan to use AI for larger tasks, fearing that the technology could be used to reduce the need for real humans.
