A study published in the Lancet eBioMedicine shows that AI can accurately determine whether a mass in the body is cancerous. During the experiment, the scientists used the results of computed tomography of 500 patients with neoplasms in their lungs.
The AI model demonstrated accuracy in diagnosing malignant tumors at the level of 0.87, where 1 was considered an ideal indicator and 0.5 indicated errors.
Thanks to artificial intelligence, doctors were also able to identify patients at high risk of cancer. Of the 22 cases for which the system recommended early intervention, 18 were confirmed to be malignant.
The author of the study, Dr. Richard Lee expressed hope that new technologies will help speed up the detection of diseases.
