The main purpose of this malicious program is to transmit traffic between infected objects and hackers’ command and control servers by disguising the source and purpose of messages.
It is important to note that routers are not a specific target, they are used as a means by hackers to achieve their goals.
Researchers learned this while researching cyberattacks on European foreign policy structures. By creating a chain of infected devices that forwarded traffic to the C&C server, the attackers effectively concealed the true purpose and source of the infection.
