Note that there have been more than 30,000 cases and nearly 800 deaths from mushroom poisoning in the last 10 years, according to one of the recent studies. Even in the US, thousands of calls are made to poison control centers each year for poisonous mushrooms.
Deadly galleric fungus is a particularly common cause of death in humans – accounting for more than 90% of all fungal-related deaths by some estimates.
