Online learning market analysts noted a slowdown in the growth in demand for additional professional education. In the first quarter of 2023, interest increased by 21%, although in the same period of the previous year it was 27%.

Growth in demand for specialized IT and management education slowed

Such data is provided by the Smart Ranking agency, to which Kommersant refers.

Among the areas that are rapidly losing popularity is IT. After the peak in demand last year (due to state benefits in this field), there was a decline, which experts attribute to the difficulty in finding work after completing the courses.

The human resources market is dissatisfied with the quality of postgraduate training, in addition, the number of junior specialists (who are trained by platforms) is significantly higher than the average and the best, and they are in demand by the market.

Other CPE areas are also losing popularity: for example, “in March, demand for programming, analytics, business and management courses decreased” (Netology data).

In general, the online education market in the first quarter of 2023 grew by 23%, and the revenue of the largest players during this time reached 25 billion rubles.

There is a redistribution of demand: creative areas are increasingly in demand. Skillbox calculated: “film and music” (+43% YoY), “producer of music projects” (+57%), “publisher” (+18%).”

All of this gives hope to some market participants: for example, Ultimate Education President Pavel Moseykin believes that the CVE segment will pick up by the end of the year and may even show growth of up to 30%.

Smart Ranking also looks at the entire market as a whole, predicting growth of 20-25% to 100 billion rubles for December.
