If you’re looking for a simple audio recording app (for example, for your podcast to see if it’s for you), look no further than Windows 11’s voice recorder. It’s a free and usually pre-installed app you can use. immediately when you have Windows on your system.

If the app is not yet on your system, you can download it from the Microsoft Store. On your computer, press the right button to open the store application, then press the right button again to install the application.

After installing and opening the voice recorder, you come to the conclusion that the application is simple. Of course you need a microphone for this. So make sure it’s connected. Or if you are using a laptop: that the built-in microphone is on.

Using Sound Recorder Windows 11

You start recording by pressing the big microphone button at the bottom. You can also start recording with Ctrl + R (from recording). By the way, you can add a mark to the recording while recording, so you can see later that you still need to edit or add something. The recording will not be stopped, but when you click on the dropdown next to the button at the bottom left mark You will then be immediately taken to that part of the recording. So you don’t have to search later.

You can use the pause button to pause the recording. It sounds logical, but in this case the recording will not be stopped and when you open the recording again you will not continue in another file. So you record in a single file; but you can still take a break. When you press the stop button, the recording will be closed and saved. In Windows 10, the file was saved as an m4a file in the Documents folder by default.

Since Windows 11, you can specify the recording format yourself. To do this, go to Settings and choose a file format under it. recording format. You have the option to save your recordings as AAC, MP3, WMA and FLAC. You can also adjust the sound quality here to reduce the size of the files, for example Medium (smallest file size).

By the way, it is also possible to listen and edit Windows files stored in the program. To do this, open the voice recorder and select the file you want to hear from the menu on the left. The trim button lets you edit the track. You then choose a start and end point to exclude from your recording. Then you can save the file as it is now. Select the option to save a copy here so that the original file is always at hand.

It is also possible to share an audio file with others directly from the application. You do this using the share button. You will find it at the top right.
