At the presentation of the iPhone 15, almost certainly scheduled for the second week of September, the people of Cupertino will also announce the Apple Watch Series 9. While there are notable changes expected for this generation, in the not too distant future we could see a rather interesting novelty. IN Apple insider found a patent that will allow the Apple Watch to change color.

A document filed with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) reveals some interesting ingenuity from Apple regarding its wearables. Of course, the proposal is a priori eccentric. Comprises customize your device spheres with a chameleoncausing the clock to take on the tones of nearby objects.

For example, the colors of the Apple Watch—in particular, their spheres—will match the colors of the watch band, the clothes the user wears, their car, and other possible scenarios. Another possibility is to bring any element closer to the screen so that the sensors recognize the hue and reproduce it.

Apple’s USPTO patent details that a sensor capable of detecting colors will be located behind the screen. In practice, it is enough to bring the object closer to the device so that it changes its hue. It is easy to understand: if you put an apple in front of the clock, its dial would turn red.

The document states that the Apple Watch’s color-changing technology uses a sensor that measures the amount of red, green, and blue light reflected. The team then “can determine the hue of the outer object based on its reflectivity”, eventually reproducing it.

This offer might be really interesting for Apple Watch users. Especially considering that the Californian company does not allow the use of spheres provided by third parties.

When will the Apple Watch Chameleons be released?

The aforementioned Apple Watch came in the form of a patent, and in that sense, it’s not an ongoing development, but rather a blueprint that the tech company sees as possible. Meanwhile, we cannot even guarantee that this idea will come true in the future. At the same time, it should be noted that this type of document allows you to “spy” on the interests of manufacturers and be direct witnesses of some projects with innovative potential.

The Watch series will be renewed in September.
The Watch series will be renewed in September.

As we mentioned earlier, it is expected Apple Watch ad at the event, which the company will hold in September. Because we believe hypertextthe device will receive an annual update with the release of Series 9 and the second generation Ultra model.

In the first case, the most notable modification will be the introduction of the new S9 chip based on the A15 Bionic iPhone 13. In addition, it will be released with a new strap design, which will be made of woven material and with a magnetic buckle. As for the second generation Apple Watch Ultra, it is expected that it will also inherit the same processor and a new dark gray color variant.

However, if you’re expecting to see more colors from the Apple Watch, you may have to wait a little longer. In addition, the same chameleon system could be applied to other technology, such as the iPhone. Imagine if your phone could automatically change its hue based on what you’re wearing! While this change will not provide usability benefits, we believe it will appeal to many customers.
