Samsung announced a partnership with Microsoft that will offer various benefits to Galaxy device users. One of the most important relates to the interaction between your mobile phone and your Windows computer. This year you can use your Galaxy S24 as a webcam for video calls in Teams and other applications.

During CES 2024 Samsung revealed all the news which will reach various product lines. Although there is a separate event dedicated to mobile phones, South Koreans usually show off some advances in the first weeks of the year. In this case, the main character is artificial intelligence and its achievements in brand devices.

As part of its alliance with Microsoft, Samsung has confirmed that Galaxy smartphones can be used as a webcam in Windows. Users will have the option to choose the main or front camera and apply effects based on artificial intelligencesuch as background blur or automatic cropping.

“Today’s work often requires a lot of video calls, so we thought of making the powerful cameras of our smartphones more convenient for conducting virtual meetings,” said Jonathan Gabrio, director of the Samsung Connected Experience Center. “Starting with our top models later this year, people will be able to use the fantastic clarity and resolution of their Galaxy smartphone cameras to enhance their meetings using services like Microsoft Teams.”

Gabrio said this feature will be available for flagships coming in 2024, like Galaxy S24. The manager did not confirm whether they will provide the new feature to the previous or lower models. Let’s remember this Galaxy A54 (or even Galaxy M) camera is better than any Chinese webcam which we found on Amazon for a higher price.

Using the Samsung Galaxy as a webcam is something that should have happened three years ago.

It is possible to use a mobile phone as a webcam. a feature that will be useful to many. The good news is that you can do this easily and without paying for additional applications. The bad news is that comes a little late to the party.

Demand for webcams reaches record levels in 2020, when the pandemic made remote work mandatory. Some users decided to pay more for the Logitech C920, while others took advantage of their mobile and they used EpocCam or DroidCam to get out of trouble. Android apps didn’t have all the benefits currently advertised, but they solved the need to have a camera for video calling.

Three years later, the world has reached a new normal and demand for these devices has normalized. It’s interesting that manufacturers like Google or Samsung have realized that using a mobile phone as a webcam is important. While the former already offer this option in Android 14 for Pixel, Samsung will take several months to launch it widely.

Details may be revealed during the Galaxy S24 presentation scheduled for next one is January 17th. In it, Samsung announces not only new next-generation high-end hardware, but also advances in artificial intelligence resulting from its alliance with Microsoft.
