Somewhere in the rocks of 2023, I traded in my iPhone 13 Pro Max for a 15 Pro. I wanted to use a compact smartphone rather than carry a big “shovel” with me.
Before purchasing, I read an opinion about the battery and its capacity in the regular firmware and in its earlier version, but did not attach any importance to it. The main thing, as it seemed to me then, was what I saw: all iPhone 15 Pro holders unanimously claimed that the battery consistently lasted for a day.
In the first months this was the case; at the first stage the battery was discharged from 100 to 97%. After that, my life turned into a constant outlet or power bank.
How much capacity is left now?
Yes, a year has passed. But the same Huawei Pura 70 Ultra, which will also soon be a year old, holds the battery much better. I know because I’ve been using them as a regular smartphone for a few weeks.
I remind you I’ve had my iPhone 15 Pro for a little over a year.. At the moment, the battery capacity is shown at 87%, and iOS assures that its condition is normal.
But my condition is far from normal, because every day after 15 o’clock I already need an outlet so as not to be left with a completely discharged smartphone by 20 o’clock.
However, I don’t run games on my iPhone or edit videos. During the day, the lion’s share of activity is Telegram, a little mail, a little more Internet and websites… and all that!
And if I start the navigation while on a train in the car, the battery melts at some incredible speed. Just the other day, a 40-minute trip with Yandex Navigator active drained my iPhone by 27 percent.
It’s gotten to the point where I occasionally pick up and use my old iPhone 13 Pro Max for a few more years, its battery holds a charge many times longer, it really lasts all day.
What to do. There are several options
Screenshot from Nikita’s article about the iPhone 15 Pro Max. It even has longer screen time; the battery still lasts all day.
Nikita recently described the battery history of his iPhone 15 Pro Max 9 months after purchase. Everything is fine there and he has no problems with rapid discharge. However, for anyone struggling with their battery capacity, this article offers two solutions:
You can walk in circles around the iPhone, turn on all the charging limits, optimize and generally blow away the dust from the “batteries”. But I much prefer the second option.
When capacity drops to 85% or lower, I will simply replace the battery. There have never been any problems with this in Russia, even taking into account the appeal of the ASC and Apple’s official warranty and post-warranty service. Now to do it wisely (with “interest” and without “errors”) costs about 14 thousand rubles.
Personally, both the first and second options do not suit me. The first is because I have a negative attitude towards restrictions in iOS for the sake of one or two dozen batteries. The second option requires money that I would rather spend on the new iPhone Pro Max of the next series.
And yes, right now I don’t see any point in buying a new iPhone, because I want to wait for the September presentation, at which at least something will be changed in the design(on). Somehow I’ll make it through another six months with my software, even though it’s hard.
I began to understand power banks and have already saved a fair amount of them at home. In every bag, backpack, in many pockets, I put the battery somewhere just in case. Alas, the owner of an iPhone 15 Pro can’t live without this accessory. Especially a year after starting to use a smartphone.
I’m not writing this just to reach out to you: if you’re deciding to buy a new iPhone and choosing between Pro and Pro Max, I strongly advise you to really estimate how often you use your smartphone during the day. If (like me) your iPhone screen is active for an average of 5 hours over 10 days, then the iPhone Pro Max should be your choice.
Otherwise, 3-5 months after the usual purchase of a firmware, you will begin to “turn to” chargers in order to survive with a working smartphone until the evening.
Don’t repeat my mistake, select “Pro Max”. And I will definitely take exactly this one next to my smartphone.
