Smartphones get better every year, but their usefulness decreases if they break due to a fall. To see which phones perform better than others in terms of durability, companies like Allstate Protection Plans conduct standardized tests.

The latest drop test from Allstate Protection Plans shows results for the new Samsung Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24 Plus and Galaxy S24 Ultra. Spoiler: they are less stable than last year’s models.

The test consisted of dropping each Galaxy S24 from the back and front. In both tests, the 6.1-inch Galaxy S24 suffered almost the same damage as the Galaxy S23. The rear-end drop, which dropped the phone from a height of six feet (1.82 meters), caused cracks to appear at the ends of the back panel. Unfortunately, like its predecessor, the Galaxy 24 stopped working after the first front drop test.

The 6.7-inch Galaxy S24 Plus also failed the Allstate Protection Plans test. The phone was found to be unusable in front and rear drop tests. The result contrasts with the Galaxy S23 Plus, which passed the test. Notably, both the Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24 Plus are made from the same materials as the Galaxy S23 models.

However, the most alarming result is observed with the Galaxy S24 Ultra. Although the material is supposedly replaced with an aluminum frame and a completely flat design, the Galaxy S24 broke after one six-foot drop test on the front and back. In contrast, the Galaxy S23 Ultra proved to be more durable.

While the results are concerning, Allstate Protection Plans offers a solution that is as simple as it is obvious: use a protective cover.

The good news is that there are endless options for protective cases. Here we leave you with a few options for the Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24 Plus and Galaxy S24 Ultra.
