We’re used to learning about Apple’s plans through leaks and rumors. In most cases these are quite accurate predictions, in others, like the one we are dealing with today, they are completely far from Apple’s current plans. And Ming-Chi Kuo assures that the company is working on a new c.Folding 20-inch MacBook conceptcompletely flexible, which will appear sometime in 2027. As usual, the analyst does this without giving any indication of it.
In accordance with KuoApple’s foldable product plan doesn’t involve the iPhone, just a foldable MacBook with said 20-inch flexible screen. And what would it be like? Well, as we say, this does not give any details, but we can get an idea of what the mentioned size will be with the device fully folded diagonally across the screen, that is, open.
However, this would also be quite strange. If 20 inches occupy the entire diagonal of the product at the maximum size, folding will be limited to 10 inches per screen, and that’s without taking into account the space that the frames or the folding system would take up, so it’s not very clear that something that’s already conceptually strange is a reality in the Apple catalogue.
A folding MacBook that sounds equally impressive but also vague
Besides, dates don’t really matter either. What we’re talking about is that Kuo says the foldable MacBook will go into production in 2027, which is just 3 years from now for a technology that still has a lot of unresolved issues despite being on the market for a while now . . However, it is limited to small devices, and the number of devices of this size entering the market en masse and improving on current technology is a testament to this.
Perhaps most similar to the concept Kuo is proposing are the ThinkPad X1 Fold and the ASUS Zenbook 17 Fold OLED, to name a few. Although these are two full-screen and foldable devices, the truth is that their limitations are obvious and it is very strange that Apple chooses a route for its device where the central fold takes all the attention.
If you pay attention to previous rumors, the possibility of a foldable MacBook has always been discussed. But the absolute lack of details and the strictness with which Kuo even mentions the release date only casts doubt on a plan that, given the already ruled out iPhone case, poses many difficulties for Manzana.
