Apple took everyone by surprise with its announcement new version of iPad mini. The smallest tablet on the market has been updated with new important features in terms of performance thanks to the use of the chip. A17 Pro – like the iPhone 15 Pro – and with the arrival of new artificial intelligence features that are part of Apple Intelligence.
Another interesting novelty of the device is that it introduces Apple Pencil Pro supportversion of the digital pencil introduced last May with the latest update to the iPad Pro and Air. Of course, the accessory is not included with the new iPad mini; it must be purchased separately.
In terms of design, the new iPad mini is not much different from its predecessor. What has changed is the color offering, as the device is now available in space gray, star white, purple and blue. The latter takes the place of pink in the apple catalog.
Besides the arrival of the A17 Pro chip, which features a 6-core CPU, 5-core GPU, and 16-core Neural Engine, another major new feature is related to storage. Updated iPad mini now it starts at 128GBinstead of 64 GB in previous versions. Moreover, it is also offered with 256GB or 512GB of internal space.
In terms of performance, Apple says the seventh-generation iPad mini offers 30% improvement in CPU performance and 25% improvement in GPU performance compared to the previous model equipped with the A15 Bionic processor. These optimizations give it enough power to be the most powerful generation of this device and, in turn, meet the technical requirements to take advantage of Apple Intelligence.
The new iPad mini is ready to work with Apple Intelligence
The new iPad mini will launch with iPadOS 18, although it will receive the iPadOS 18.1 update before the end of this month, which will introduce the first new features Apple Intelligence. These include updates to Siri, Photo Memories, and Writing Tools apps. Other advanced features, such as Image Playground or ChatGPT integration, will arrive later, although there are no specific dates for this yet.
What doesn’t change about the iPad mini compared to the previous generation is the screen type and size (8.3-inch Liquid Retina), 12-megapixel rear camera, 12-megapixel center-frame ultra-wide-angle front camera, and battery life. However, it’s worth clarifying that the updated hardware now supports Smart HDR 4 on both the front and rear sensors, unlike the previous generation’s Smart HDR 3.
In the connection section, meanwhile, the tablet now supports Wi-Fi 6E. It’s a minor change from the 6th generation iPad mini (WiFi 6), but it’s a welcome improvement.
