Samsung has been hinting at an AI phone for years now and we’ve always expected this series to come. Galaxy S25 will focus mainly on Galaxy AI. It turns out there may be a lot more to it than expected: a new video from Samsung teases a “true AI companion” and shows AI performing tasks beyond Bixby’s reach.

In the video, the woman tells the AI: “Hey, I’m going to my next meeting, but I need to find an Italian restaurant. The outdoor areas are of course pet friendly. Can you send this to Luke? Oh, and can you put it on my calendar? It’s a complex series of requests spoken in a natural, meandering rhythm, and the AI seems to take it all in without missing a beat. Your restaurant request also means that the AI knows your preferences well enough to suggest your desired location.

Let’s figure it out. “I’m leaving for my next meeting” implies that the AI has access to the calendar and knows the time of the meeting, so the phone can be put into Do Not Disturb mode. You request a certain type of restaurant with certain features, then ask the AI to send the appointment to a contact and add it to your calendar in one fell swoop. This is a big step up from most current AI assistants.

Bixby has always been the butt of jokes because it’s less efficient than Google Assistant (among other reasons), but the video points to some major upgrades. However, this is not entirely surprising; The next generation of Bixby AI has already launched in China and is expected to launch globally soon.

A real AI companion is coming | Samsung

The video ends with the words “A real AI companion is coming”, with the Galaxy AI logo below them, and then cuts to a teaser screen to Galaxy without packaging (this, by the way, is in eight days, Wednesday, January 22).

This improved AI will likely be available on the Galaxy S25 series once it’s announced at Galaxy Unpacked, but there’s a chance it could make its way to other Samsung devices as well. Since it’s already available on Samsung phones in China, it doesn’t require the S25 chipset, but it’s also likely to result in slower performance on underpowered devices.

In any case, Gemini AI has already demonstrated the ease of two-way questions using AI. Adding similar functionality to the Galaxy S25 series will make it a true next-gen upgrade.
