ProMotion technology found in iPhone 13 Pro and 14 Pro It will not reach the base models for at least another two years.. Ross Young, CEO of Display Supply Chain Consultants, who often reveals upcoming Apple products with high hit rates, singled out that the company will not enable 120Hz screen on the iPhone 16 as planned, but will do so with the iPhone 17.

Previous leaks have already shown that the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus, which could be announced in September, will keep the screen at 60Hz. On the other hand, the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max will have ProMotion technology, which, we repeat, has been present in Pro models since 2021, when the iPhone 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max were announced.

ProMotion technology, let’s remember allows you to adapt the refresh rate depending on what is being played on the screen. For example, if the system detects no movement, the frequency is set to 1 Hz to conserve battery power. If, on the other hand, we scroll or the panel plays movement, the frequency increases to 120 Hz.

The base iPhone won’t get ProMotion until 2025.

Thus, Apple’s plan to implement the ProMotion screen in the base models is as follows.

This year, the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus will inherit Dynamic Island, which came with the iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max, but not 120Hz. In 2024, the iPhone 16 will retain Dynamic Island and 60Hz on the screen. Already in 2025, the iPhone 17 will have both a dynamic island and a screen with ProMotion technology.. In 2026, Apple will keep this configuration, and only in 2027 will the company put a 120Hz screen with Face ID under the panel, leaving only a small hole for the camera.

On Pro models, the roadmap is slightly different. Of course, all models announced from now on will feature a ProMotion display. Nevertheless, It won’t be until 2025, with the iPhone 17 Pro, when Apple bets on under-dash Face ID and a hole for the camera.. The company will keep this configuration until 2027, when the iPhone 19 Pro will have both Face ID and an under-screen selfie camera.
