Samsung has started rolling out its latest security update, and it’s critical for those with phones that use Exynos modems like the flagship. Galaxy S22 last year that were at high risk of major security breaches. The new update fixes these security issues (and more) and is now rolling out to Lines. Galaxy S23 in Europe and South Korea.

In mid-March, a Project Zero report from Google’s internal security research team revealed that security issues found in devices using Exynos modems could give remote users the ability to easily hack a phone at the range level. At the time, Samsung said it had released security patches for five of these vulnerabilities in March and an update in April to fix the remaining issues.

According to a report posted on Samsung’s website, the April 2023 security patch contains fixes (CVEs) from Google for 55 security flaws, of which four fixes are called critical and 46 are high priority. That’s why it’s important to install this update on your Galaxy phones as soon as it arrives, even though the Galaxy S23 series doesn’t use an Exynos modem. It also addresses security vulnerabilities found in the 3GPP implementation in the Exynos modem baseband and Exynos Fast Boot USB interface.

Samsung is also rolling out an additional 15 patches with the update for Galaxy smartphones and tablets. Most of these flaws have been found on devices running Android 11 and above. In addition to the high-severity vulnerabilities, flaws in the SemClipboard, SLocatoin and Telephony functions were also fixed, as well as loopholes found in the TIGERF trustlet, a capture vulnerability in the CertificatePolicy, and incorrect authorization of the Smart Suggests widget.
