The company that created the Raspberry PI, the single-board computer that allows us to have full-featured hardware at a reduced price, has released new models of its other product line, microcontrollers.

With this, they present us with the new Raspberry Pi Pico W, a microcontroller based on the Raspberry Pi Pico that now supports wireless thanks to Infineonwhich also increases its price, although it will still be very cheap.

this microcontroller finally adds the most desired feature for those who are hesitant to buy the base modelalthough it has certain limitations, at least temporary ones.

And the fact is that after this announcement, the company made it clear in its press release that the board does not yet have functional Bluetooth connectivity despite the chip being compatible with Bluetooth Classic and Bluetooth Low Energy.

This technology is ideal for IoT or battery-powered applications and provides an easier connection than Wi-Fi, for example, but you will have to wait for a software update to enable its use.

One of the biggest curiosities of this new model is its backwards compatible with base model Pi Pico. And the fact is that the Raspberry Pi Pico W is pin-compatible with the Raspberry Pi Pico.

This makes it possible to use the same apps designed for both with different wireless capabilities, and for those who have been using the original model for a while, they don’t have to redo or adapt it.

Inside this Raspberry Pico W we can find the RP2040 microcontroller which It has two ARM Cortex M0 cores at 133MHz. and 264KB of SRAM, all in a 40mm transistor package. It also has 2MB of flash memory. and micro USB port.

With a built-in wireless chip, it offers 802.11n connectivity and full backwards pin compatibility with older models that support WiFi 4 technology.

We can get this Raspberry Pi Pico W for just $6, it’s the second cheapest model after the Pi Pico with only $4.
