Feline friends love thecatnip. THE cats in fact, they nibble on it, rub it, scratch it. In short, they do everything with us. It seems to represent an amazing substance that gets those who get high from it.

Two studies led by Reiko Uenoyama of Iwate University reveal the reason behind it
explanation that is catnip repellent against certain insects. Nepeta cataria, the most catnip type
diffuse, contains two chemical ingredients. They are called nepetalactol and nepetalactone, they spread
when catnip leaves are damaged.

These substances have a repellent capacity against certain types of insects. Among these also the tiger mosquitoes. When a cat rubs against the leaves of catnip, this movement can release a good amount of repellent. It will even manage to cover the animal with the same natural amount
from autan, the well-known mosquito repellent.

Our feline friends don’t just rub the leaves, they bite them, or tear them or
scratch. Here comes a second study. The latter wanted to find out whether such behaviour
of the cat are due to the desire to play. Or on the other hand if they had a different purpose. The correct answer is the second. Yes, because in bites, tears and scratches, nepetalactol and nepetalactone are released in large quantities. yep
it can say 10 times more than what an undamaged leaf radiates.

Hence the reason for the many bites cats give to catnip. The latter have combined business with pleasure. After all, they beat us to it with a personalized mosquito repellent just for them!
