How does a hybrid car work?

If you are one of those people who loves to drive and spends the day reading car magazines, you probably know that there are many options for electric vehicles on the market. What if all-electric, what if plug-in hybrids, what if traditional hybrids … Each of them works in its own way.

Although if we talk about hybrids, they retain the sacred basis in everything: Simply put, a hybrid combines at least one electric motor with a gasoline engine to propel the vehicle, and its system recovers energy through regenerative braking and other methods.

Sometimes the electric motor does all the work, sometimes the gas motor, and sometimes they work together. The result is less gasoline consumption and therefore greater fuel economy. Adding electricity can even improve performance in some cases.

In all of them, electricity comes from a high-voltage battery. (separate from normal 12V car battery) which is replenished by capturing braking energy this is usually lost in the heat generated by the brakes in regular cars.

Among existing models traditional hybrid or parallel hybridthis operation started in this sector almost ten years ago.

In this most common design, electric and gasoline engines are combined into a common transmission that combines two sources of energy. This transmission can be automatic, manual, or continuously variable (CVT). An industry first for the Toyota Prius to use this type.

What a parallel hybrid car does is add the power of an electric motor and an internal combustion engine to develop more power and consume less gasoline almost all the time. Cars with this option typically have city fuel consumption between 6 liters and 3/4 liters.

Toyota, as we mentioned earlier, This is one of the brands that makes the most of this technology.as it eschews micro-hybrid options (with little real fuel savings) or plug-ins (which are really expensive and require outlets near the house).
