Russia explained Why is it being removed from the International Space Station? and put forward that politics has no place in space. Director of Roscosmos Yuri Borisov said in an interview that the space agency will start withdrawing in 2024, but there is no exact date yet for the complete abandonment of the space complex. Borisov, who recently replaced the scandalous Dmitry Rogozin, assured that this is a reason for survival, not a political conflict.
This was announced by the head of Roscosmos. the main modules of the International Space Station have exhausted their resource for which they were designed. This poses a security threat to Russian cosmonauts and astronauts from other countries stationed there. Now a priority ensure survival in the face of possible catastrophe.
Although it is impossible to predict when a disaster will occur, Borisov foresees that the process will snowball, threatening the lives of the crew. The director of Roscosmos says that they listened to the opinion of experts and believe that this process will begin to take shape in 2024.
The exact date of Russia’s departure from the International Space Station has not been determined and will depend on the state of the orbital complex. “We will start the exit process after 2024. Everything depends, among other things, on the performance of the ISS, either in the middle of 2024 or in 2025, ”said the head of Roscosmos.
Russia has no political reason to leave the International Space Station
A few days ago, Borisov said that the reasons were not political, and again supported him. “Now about the political aspects: they don’t exist. I think they shouldn’t exist,” he said. “I suppose that these projects should be out of politics both today and in the future“, – he said. The head of Roscosmos noted that the International Space Station project has enriched world science in the field of knowledge of the Earth and the Universe.
The Russian official promised to fulfill all his obligations to partners, however decided to leave the International Space Station. Borisov also said that Roskosmos will gradually switch to the provision of commercial services.
Finally, Roskomos announced a reorganization in the process of creating satellites. Yuri Borisov said that they should restructure production in such a way that they could produce satellites in the appropriate quantity and quality. The official admitted that Russia overtaken by USA, Europe and China in this area, so they have a “debt to pay” to the economy of their country.
It won’t be easy given that Russia is facing a slew of sanctions related to its invasion of Ukraine. Given this, the agency will have to rethink processes such as research, development, production and testing. Roscosmos too. plans to launch an autonomous station into orbit before completely leaving the ISS. The latter seems challenging, although the agency is optimistic and believes it will be achieved before the end of the decade.
