The second module of the new Chinese space station was launched into space this Sunday (24). The structure, called Wentian, contains laboratories where scientific research will be carried out.
After 13 hours of work, the docking of the structure was successful. In October, the country should hold another launch with the final piece of its new space operations hub.

Wentian is 17.9 meters long in total. In addition to the laboratories, it includes an airlock cabin that will serve as short-term accommodation for the astronauts to stay during crew rotation, as well as an entry and exit point for non-vehicle activities.
The 23-tonne module was launched into space with the Long March 5B rocket, the most powerful of the Chinese space fleet. The launch took place at 14:22 local time on the island of Hainan in the south of the country.
Dubbed the “Paradise Palace”, the Tiangong space station began construction in 2021. It will consist of three modules in total. The first, Tianhe, is already in orbit and includes accommodation for the crew.
The last, Mengtian, will also have research labs and will open later this year. The country decided to establish its own base after the United States refused to participate in the activities of the International Space Station (ISS).
