YouTube is testing a new feature: lo zoom in on videos. At the moment, the feature can only be tested by subscribers to YouTube Premium, which offers its subscribers access to some experimental services in addition to various benefits. The test phase will last until September 1, after which YouTube will decide whether the zoom will be made available to all users.
From smartphones, users can use the two-finger gesture to: enlarge the image in some specific parts of the videos. The feature is currently only available on smartphones and tablets. It doesn’t look like YouTube is interested in bringing it to PC as well.
Once the zoom is activated, the user can move the image at will to emphasize the detail they are interested in. YouTube is using this testing phase to collect feedback from the subscriber community YouTube Premium.
In September, after the trial period is over, the feature is likely to be disabled. At the moment we do not know how much time will pass between the end of the test and the official debut of the zoom.
YouTube also recently introduced a new tool that makes it easy to short a longer video. We told you about it here.
