In recent years, the number of deaths on the roads has increased again, and DGT is ready to do everything possible to reduce them.

The European Parliament adopted a law on all new vehicles produced after June 6th include the Intelligent Speed Assist or ISA.

Near active speed limiterthat is, it can take control of the vehicle’s speed if it is very high. From 2024, it will be in all cars.

As our colleague Aaron Perez at Auto Bild explains, many cars are now equipped with two systems that ISA is about to combine.

On the one hand there is speed limiter which already includes cars from manufacturers such as Toyota or Lexus, as well as Volvo and Renault, which They limit the speed to 180 km/h. In some cases, the driver may increase or decrease this limit. The car will stop accelerating if this speed is exceeded. Nonetheless, it is an additional system which is canceled by a sharp press on the accelerator.

Another technology used in some vehicles is signal recognition system. Outdoor cameras recognize signs, especially speed limits, and display them on the dashboard so that the driver can take them into account. But like the previous system, it’s just information technology.

Intelligent Speed Assistant ISA arrives

What does ISA do? combine these two technologies in one deviceand at the same time, take control of the throttle if you think it’s necessary. This is a big difference: this warning system ceases to be passive and informative, but becomes active.

According to Auto Bild, initially this master will be disabled, but it re-activates after stopping and restarting the engine. It also has three levels of action.

AT First level, ISA will warn of speeding due to its ability to read signs. This will be done visually and audibly both on the dashboard and with an audible alert, but will not affect driving.

in Second levelif the speed continues to increase, ISA will start interfering. You can press the accelerator pedal or warn with a tactile signal on the accelerator pedal that we are over the limit. However, at this level may continue to accelerate if we keep pushing hard on the accelerator.

During Third level the car takes control of the accelerator, adapting the speed to traffic signals or road type. The driver can only control the steering wheel and brake.

remains to be seen what will be the speeds that set these levelsand the fields that the DGT will leave before the ISA takes control.
