google won’t be producing another Pixelbook anytime soon. The company canceled plans to design a new model and the team working on it was disbanded.

Just until a few months ago, Google planned to give continuity to the line Pixelbookits family of compact and lightweight laptops with an operating system Chrome OS. Rick Osterloh, No. 1 in Google’s hardware division, had promised The Verge division: “we will continue to produce new Pixelbooks in the future”.

But in the end, the Mountain View company changed its mind: not only has the production of a new Pixelbook been canceled, but even the team responsible for monitoring the project seems to have been permanently laid off.

Oserloh himself had explained to The Verge that the Pixelbook target market had changed a lot from 2017, when the first product of this line was released. And then the specter of another recession, which has forced Google to cut new hires and focus on the most profitable projects, at the cost of pulling the plug or saving money on the most short-lived initiatives. We now know that the team responsible for designing the new Pixelbooks belonged to the latter category – an inevitable victim of the rigid spending assessment mandated by Google’s executives.
