The function Community chat coming Messenger and on groups Facebook, allows large Messenger groups to categorize chats, including audio and video channels for real-time discussions, admin-only chats for announcements, and event chats. Like Discord, community chats are designed to make it easier to keep up with fast-moving conversations that involve a lot of people.
Zuckerberg writes:
We’re building community chats as a new way to connect with people who share your interests. More than 1 billion people use Messenger to communicate with friends, and soon you’ll be able to start community chats from Messenger and Facebook groups.
Similar to a Facebook group, these chats are designed to go beyond your own real-life group of friends: if the user is a woman who loves to surf, she can join “Women Who Surf”. Since you will likely need to communicate with strangers, the product is implemented with moderation tools that allow administrators to delete messages and block, mute, or suspend group members.
An “Administrator Help” feature allows administrators to set custom policies to automate moderation.
