The Netherlands’ two largest providers, Ziggo and KPN, may announce a price increase from next week, according to Totaal TV, based on anonymous stakeholders. Companies generally allow price changes to take effect from 1 July.
It is unknown how much the prices of Internet and/or TV subscriptions will change. For reference: last year KPN increased the subscription price by about 1.50 euros, excluding the gigabit internet subscription. It actually got cheaper. Ziggo did pretty much the same with an average price increase of €1.43 per subscription in 2021. At least 1.50 euros is expected to be a reasonable price increase for this year.
According to Ziggo, the biggest driver of price increase is inflation. Inflation adjustment is calculated based on the inflation of the previous year before the price changes. Energy prices have skyrocketed in recent months and inflation has been much more extreme than usual, potentially affecting prices going forward.
