The problem is widespread and seems to affect the vast majority of users. As usual, also in this case the site downdetector.com it gives us an excellent litmus test to get an idea of the magnitude of the problem. As early as 09:10 today, more than 20,000 users reported that they could no longer use WhatsApp.
The problem is not limited to Italy. On social networks it is also possible to identify notifications from French, German and many other European countries. Also on downdetector, reports of inefficiencies for other platforms including Telegram, Facebook and Instagram have also increased. However, it is not certain that the problems are all related.
For example, in one of our tests, it was actually impossible to send and receive messages on WhatsApp, even though we had no problems browsing Facebook or communicating on Telegram.
Meta has not yet made any statements. Given the magnitude of the issue, it’s likely that the company will release a note explaining the root cause of the issue in the next few hours.
