Intel wants to replace the standard network infrastructure with smarter, more powerful devices. Devices with fixed function to fully programmable devices. This provides organizations with opportunities to build networks more intelligently.

The Intel Mount Evans 200G IPU will ship to Google this year and will be available to other customers next year. Speed will double to 400G in the coming years with Hot Springs Canyon and Mount Morgan.
Intel wants to make network devices with these products that can be used both at the edge and at the backbone of the network. These devices can perform all kinds of tasks and can be used by all kinds of operating systems due to the hardware used. Intel’s chips are sold to network equipment manufacturers.
These Intel products appear to be an important step forward for the ‘white box network’. Where hardware from mainnet vendors can be used with open source software.
