This is last Tuesday (14), HE TikTok announced that it will offer another publication to platform users, focusing entirely on content related to science, technology, engineering and mathematics.. In addition to the “I’m Following” and “For You” posts, The “STEM” tab (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics or short for science, technology, engineering and math) will be included in the app to deliver verified content on the subjects.

All videos found in the new feed will be judged by special moderation and go through an information check process – a matter of curiosity: The STEM presentation was held on Pi Day, the same day as the birth of physicist Albert Einstein.

As announced in the statement for now, the innovation will be available to users in the United States in the coming weeks.

Common Sense Network is one of the partner companies that will audit to ensure videos can be posted in the feed; Currently, the company is already helping TikTok filter content by age. Poynter is another partner company that will assist with curation by assessing the accuracy of the content contained in the videos.

“The creativity of TikTok content makes it an energetic and fun source of information, and Poynter is delighted to partner with TikTok to help improve the quality and safe experience of STEM streaming,” said Neil Brown, President of Poynter.

Science and Technology Feed

ByteDance, the company responsible for TikTok, explains that the app is already seen as a good space for educational content communities. It’s no surprise that videos about science, technology, engineering, and math have already had more than 110 billion views; going forward, however, eligible videos must go through multiple layers of inspection before reaching the STEM stream.

“We are currently focused on bringing STEM to people in the US and we look forward to seeing how the TikTok community embraces this new source of enriching content,” a TikTok spokesperson said. Technology World by e-mail.

Now, the STEM feed will only be available to consumers in the United States, and the company has not made it clear whether it will make the feature available in Brazil or other parts of the world. This isn’t the first time TikTok has tested themed posts: In February, the company started offering some exclusive posts in select markets on topics like fashion, sports, and games.
