Acer is expanding its SpatialLabs family of stereotopic 3D imaging by announcing the new View and View Pro for gamers and professionals respectively. At launch this summer, the standalone portable 4K monitors will support 50 different games that will be converted to 3D with proprietary TrueGame software. There’s a price tag because the Acer SpatialLabs View has a suggested retail price of about $1100 excluding VAT. It is unknown how much the Pro variant will cost.

Both displays are 15.6 inches in size and have 4K resolution (3840 x 2160 pixels with a 60 Hz refresh rate). IPS panels have a response time of 30 milliseconds and produce 323 nits of light. The Acer SpatialLabs View and View Pro both weigh 1.5kg. As far as we know, the only significant difference between the two models is the vesa support for the Pro model.

But how does Acer apparently convert ordinary ‘2D’ content to 3D? For this, the brand uses SpatialLabs Go technology. Based on artificial intelligence, images from supported programs and games can seemingly go off the screen. Players can play Elite Dangerous, God of War, Forza Horizon 4 and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt in stereotopic 3D, among others. There are ways for professionals, for example, to display product photos in 3D or have a design program pop off the screen. However, it remains to be seen until this summer whether the images are truly as beautiful as in the promotional material.
