Google Hangouts will die by the end of 2022. Google’s messaging app will evolve into Google Chat, as the company announced in 2020; duration Google Duo will become Google Meet.

With this, by the end of 2022, the company will switch from three messaging apps to two and from two video calling apps to one ‘app’.

Again The Google Hangouts app for Android was retired in March, now it will start forcing users to switch to Google Chat; so the last closing of this platform will be in November.

In August of last year, the transition from Hangouts to Chat started and while not all of them were ported, the key was mandatory and would be at the end of the app, so Starting this week, the app will display a new screen asking the user to switch to Gmail chat or the Chat app.

Note that it is not necessary to install any application, because Google Chat is integrated with Gmail for Android Starting in July, anyone using Hangouts on the web version of Gmail will switch to Chat.

In the Gmail inbox, from the desktop version, simply click the ‘Settings’ option in the upper right.

Once this step is complete you need to go to ‘View all settings’ at the top. Then go to ‘Chat & Meet’. To enable Chat in Gmail, select Google Chat and then click ‘Save Changes’.
