Juan Daniel Oviedo confirms that he will not continue EL TIEMPO as head of the Administrative Department of National Statistics (Dane) in the next government.

The 45-year-old economist wants to seize other opportunities to continue serving the country. Therefore, although he acknowledges that there is a long way to go, he does not exclude running for a position elected by the people. And it hasn’t closed the door to the possibility of being part of Gustavo Petro’s administration.but in a different position from that of the Danish director.

The decision not to continue the post previously offered to him by the elected president was taken this Sunday afternoon. On Saturday, they said, the next president received a message from Daniel Rojas, program chief, asking him not to compromise on future validity regarding the multi-purpose cadastre. “Because I see different positions on a policy I lead, I would prefer someone else to be responsible for that policy,” he said.

Oviedo said he did not speak in the last hours with Petro, who returned to Colombia this weekend. About his future, it is known that he wants to continue teaching (professor at the Universidad del Rosario, the material he received). He also said that after handing over, he wanted to spend a few months in Mompox and study art history in Florence (Italy).

For the time being, there has been no official statement from Petro as to who will rule the Danes.

Oviedo is one of the most certified officials in President Iván Duque’s portfolio. It has dramatically changed data collection in the country, enabling a detailed record of what is happening in the region during the pandemic. It also included an agenda for the population of the LGTBIQ community and began to take into account in measurements what citizens’ perceptions were and how they felt.

He is an economist from the Universidad del Rosario with a MA in Mathematical Economics and Econometrics and a PhD in Economics from the University of Toulouse.
