Seeing actor Anthony Hopkins (who won an Oscar for his impressive role in The Silence of the Innocents) has already become a habit on social networks. Behind all this waste of energy distilled by the British is a Colombian.
This is his wife, Stella Arroyave, who left her hometown of Popayán to seek a future in the United States. He wanted to devote himself to acting but eventually gave himself to other arts such as painting and a love of antiques. He once set up a gallery in Malibu, where Hopkins came from. They met, fell in love and got married in 2003 after more than two years of dating.
“I was asking about an article when suddenly a very beautiful woman appeared and hugged me tightly. She was very spontaneous and I found her to be an interesting woman. Even though I was just divorced, I didn’t want to have a relationship again, but I asked for his phone number and we became friends. I called him several times to say hello and one day I decided to invite him to dinner,” she said.

The actor admits that his encounter with the Colombian changed his life. Depressed, quit alcohol and started having fun every day. Arroyave accompanied her in this transformation and even starred in her husband’s projects such as Slipstream or The Human Stain. As well as Elyse, a drama directed by Hopkins’ wife.
“He always tells me to stop worrying and live in the moment. It taught me to enjoy life. Years ago I was about to kill myself for alcohol, I was on the edge of a cliff, but I took a step back and now I know that every day I live is a gift”, In many of his interviews, the Oscar-winning actor referred to his 66-year-old wife, who also devotes time to painting, film and television production, emphasizing that her taste and optimism balance her husband.
“I tried to learn as much as I could about Latin culture. He tried to teach me to speak Spanish but I’m not really good at languages. What Stella accomplished was to get me interested in painting. A few years ago he found old written papers with drawings and strokes on one of my desks and he said to me: ‘You have to keep doing this.’ He encouraged me to continue painting and polishing my techniques. Likewise in music, he made me play the piano and started composing”, revealed in his conversation with Bocas.

In a lower profile, Stella was also essential to Hopkins’ social media performance, instilling in her a Caribbean spirit and being somewhat disrespectful and brings him closer to Colombia and those who follow his career as an actor.
