IN Dune: part 2The story depicts the conflict of intricate galactic diplomacy. Which, moreover, appears on the battlefield at the rise of the predestined messiah. Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet), born to become the leader of the hardened desert tribes of the planet Arrakis.. Although he himself does not fully understand the process that will lead him to become the visible head of the revolution, he does not hesitate to take responsibility. What will push him to confront the emperor? Known Universe and take their place in the midst of a holy war that threatens the stability of thousands of planets.
The film’s plot loosely summarizes Frank Herbert’s seminal work in science fiction.. The script, written by the same director Denis Villeneuve with Jon Spaihts and Craig Mazin, is a meticulous adaptation. In this way, he takes the spirit of the literary saga and elevates it to a visual feat that not only allows the worlds told by the writer to be reimagined for film. At the same time, it takes them to a new level of detail in terms of the mythology, culture and religion surrounding the main characters and the rest of the characters. The result is a film that, while not exact, pays homage to the work on which it is based.
However, there are some obvious changes to the plot that separate it from some of the most famous scenes in the saga. Dune. We’ll tell you what they are and how they can influence the third and so far hypothetical film that will close the trilogy. Be warned: there are some major spoilers in our analysis. Dune: part 2, Therefore, we recommend that you read it carefully if you have not yet seen the feature film.
Date on which the action takes place
Denis Villeneuve’s film continues its adaptation Dune Frank Herbert, the main elements of which were picked up in the previous one, released in 2021. Namely, the manner in which the Atreides family and their followers were killed on the orders of the Emperor of the Known Universe in a complex political move.k. Duke Leto Atreides (Oscar Isaac) was the visible head of one of the most powerful Houses of the Empire. Which gradually became a threat to the central government.
Something that prompted Emperor Shaddam IV Corrino (Christopher Walken) to make a pact with the twisted Baron Vladimir Harkonnen (Stellan Skarsgård).. Both planned to drive the Atreides from their impregnable planet Caladan and destroy them on Arrakis. But Paul, the only son of Duke Leto and Lady Jessica (Rebecca Ferguson), managed to survive with her and hide in the lands of the Free. All amid rumors that the boy may or may not have been declared the messiah.
Once hidden among the desert inhabitants, mother and son become part of a revolution that will ultimately lead to an unstoppable holy war. But while in the book all of the above happens in three years, in the film it barely happens in the middle of the year. This significantly changes some of the major events in the book and what surrounds them. Including the fact that the relationship between Chani (Zendaya), part of the Frenem tribe, and Paul is different. Not only because of the passage of time, but also for the latter’s relationship with the messiah, who is destined to destroy the galactic empire.
Chani and her relationship with Paul

In the first book—and the rest—the relationship between Chani and Paul is one of commitment to a greater cause. Although they are both in love and in fact, their story is a love story, but the highest duty comes first. Therefore, she accepts her role as a concubine as an irreparable circumstance and almost as predetermined as Muad’Dib’s place in the midst of a battle for power.
On the contrary, in Dune: part 2Chani is the voice of reason amidst the growing religious fanaticism surrounding Paul. Among a people doomed to believe and increasingly obedient to the messiah’s apparent superiority, Chani resists. It’s not only: It also demonstrates that the surge of frenzied devotion around a leader is the result of both politics and ideological manipulation.
Absence of Thufir Hawat
In the book, the character played by Stephen Henderson has a much more obvious significance than what he was given in the films. In the original text, Thufir is a Mentat, a person with artificial psychic abilities who is used as an advanced computing tool. This would allow us to know the inner movements, strategies and values of the Atreides in a detailed and orderly manner. As Paul’s mentor, he struggles to remain faithful to the young man. But once captured by Baron Harkonnen, he must submit to his will.

In the book, Thufir becomes a point of contention, which leads to his suicide at the end of the book. But, as was already seen in Denis Villeneuve’s film, the character disappears completely in Paul’s transition as the messiah anointed by destiny.
Alia Atreides
In the book, as in the 2021 film, Lady Jessica is pregnant by Leto Atreides when they are attacked by the Harkonnens. So once she and Paul are accepted into the Fremen tribe, she becomes Aaliyah’s mother. The latter is an inexplicable creature, the fruit of his mother’s special genetics.

At just two years old, he has the mind and memories of all his ancestors, as well as a superconsciousness that allows him to understand everything that happens. In addition, he can make decisions based on the reasoning of an adult. The character is so important that it is she, and not Paul, as seen in Dune: part 2 – the one who kills Baron Harkonnen. It is also an annoying, rebellious and in most cases a bit cruel spirit.
IN Dune: part 2and with the passage of time – much less than in the literary world – Alia hardly appears as a fruit capable of transmitting her thoughts telepathically. And then, with a quick glance at Paul, an adult woman played by Anya Taylor-Joy.
Death Summer II

Three years later, in Frank Herbert’s Dune, Chani and Paul’s coexistence becomes longer and deeper, so they eventually have a child. Leto II is the heir to the messiah, who dies during the bombing of a Fremen settlement. What emotionally destroys Paul and This turns him into a man who fiercely and decisively seeks revenge. IN Dune: Part 2Although Chani is Paul’s mistress, she is not pregnant and does not appear to be. Not for the colossal conclusion of the dispute.
