Predator: Prey he achieved the unthinkable: to interest the franchise in deliveries of less and less quality. Dan Trachtenberg’s film, now available on Disney+, is an interesting and flexible offering that captures the meaning of the power-based premise. The creature, this time facing enemies that will oppose it and with whom it must fight as equals, reinvents itself. Result this is a new take on the cliché plot which surprises with a good work of its narrative tone.
The movie is a nice touch. saga predator This is one of the most successful fighters. Also one of those that have suffered major setbacks in quality and offering over the past decades. Series went through almost all possible registers and turned into a motley mixture of images about a powerful being with awesome abilities. But on a few occasions, productions have abandoned their interesting point of view in favor of others that are lighter, more spectacular, or useless.
Predator: Prey returns to its roots to endow the creature with a dazzling sense of power. Set three hundred years ago in Comanche territory, it goes through several of the franchise’s most important milestones. On the other hand, the freedom to experiment freely is allowed. The result is a second wind of the saga and at the same time a rethinking of its main symbols.

Given the success of the latest installment, we can only wonder what the worst movie in the Predator franchise is. And the best? We leave you the final order according to its quality of the film series, from worst to best.
predator (2018)
After several unsuccessful attempts to restore the quality of the saga, predator came to the cinema with the promise to revive history. It was a failed experiment. he mixed humor and action in equal parts with dubious results. The plot, directed by Shane Black, completely eliminates the idea of a space warrior targeting an ordinary monster.
In fact, it’s one of those unfortunate missed opportunities that turns the Predator into a mixture of unstoppable alien and savior. Instead of going to either extreme, the script chooses to mix the two, resulting in a confusing and often weak result. As if all of the above wasn’t enough, there are also storylines that lead nowhere, out of place jokes, and unfinished scenes. Added to this is the feeling of an exciting, almost childish which, in most cases, breaks the internal tension of the film.
In the end, predator it is a flawed mechanism that attempts to recapture the saga’s defining feature with awkward clumsiness. A ludicrous take on the genre that leaves a lot to be desired and, at best, explains that the saga didn’t need it.
predators (2010)
The franchise was going through one of its worst moments and the answer was to create a hybrid between action, suspense and gore. Director Nimrod Antal tried to combine the formula a group of strangers who are at extreme risk based on predator. To this he added, and without the slightest shame, a sense of danger that surpassed any of the victims at risk. And finally, as if the script wasn’t already overloaded, he added a hasty etude about the alien society that this creature comes from.
The nonsensical mix ended with one of the weakest productions in the saga. Which, despite an all-star cast that included Adrien Brody and a devastated Laurence Fishburne, lacks any sort of internal logic. The film goes back and forth, in the midst of bloody murders, chases without the slightest interest, and the result of a ridiculous exposure. This is despite the fact that the characters are trying to survive without weapons, knowledge, or even the slightest opportunity for this.
saga predator always glorified power. But this time, he left a sense of power in a tangled dimension of conflicting thoughts. A plot decision that made the movie pointless from start to finish.
Alien vs. predator (2004)
franchise Aliens vs. predator he never had them all with him. However, this grotesque attempt at an epic tone is its most awkward moment. Paul W. S. Anderson’s version of the confrontation between Giger’s imagined alien creature and the Predator was nonsense from the first scene. AT an attempt to combine all the storiesthe film begins by establishing that there is a central point at which the plots of both sagas converge.
Big mistake. Not only because the intent is hesitant – the mysterious connection between the hunter and his dangerous prey is never clear – but also because of his clumsiness. Execution does not delve into how the Predator species decided that bare-handed combat with a virtually uncontrollable creature was viable. And while the argument explores as best it can the caveat that this is a rite of passage, the point is mired in inaccuracies. Why not do it on your planet? Why wait hundreds of years of training that will surely end in the death of a new hunter?
If the script has a noticeable whiteness and unjustified softness, then the situation is even worse with the cinematic part. In the middle of an underground exploration of inexplicable places with a painful papier-mâché aspect, the film loses its unreliability. In the end, the long-awaited meeting of the two most powerful and deadly species ended in scenes without much meaning. Perhaps the biggest problem is in the middle of a stimulusless narrative that collapses under its own weight.
Aliens vs. predator 2 (2007)
Apparently, one of the leaders decided that it would be nice to continue the failed story with Aliens vs. predator. But this time, instead of a thousand-year-old battle in a mythical area, the directors decided to give the story a less grandiose tone. And add some blood to make it clear that his creations are dangerous. However, apparently no one believed that combining the small town formula with the horrific fact needed a good script to keep it going.. However, it is sturdier and better built – mostly – than its predecessor.
One of the main problems Aliens vs. predator 2 it’s a lack of ambition. Directing duo Greg and Colin Strause rethink the idea of confronting two antagonistic species from the small. And the registry change would have worked if it wasn’t for the packaging of all sorts of disaster clichés in tiny places. Poachers who mistook the trace of a creature for an alien, blackouts, street thugs. There is nothing that the argument does not include in the middle of the premise, which is to focus its enthusiasm solely on the confrontation in its creations.
And when it finally arrives (and takes time), it’s cold but well-posed. The best? That the Predator demonstrates its cunning on the battlefield and its strength in several ways. The worst? The gruesome digital effects surrounding the Alien turn into a series of erratic movements that seek to create a mystery.
predator 2 (1990)
In the midst of a territorial confrontation between drug dealers and the harshest summer of the decade, the Predator finds the perfect place to hunt. Even more interesting when the city of Los Angeles became a dangerous place to explore. The direct sequel to the original film is chic, with brilliant action scenes and a sophisticated sense of action.
But best of all, director Stephen Hopkins was able to exalt the specific nature of the hunter-alien. In addition, he adds the first anthropological elements of the creature and makes it clear that it is not just an alien. It is also a powerful being, a member of a race for which hunting is a form of stylized art.
One of the most intriguing moments of the film is its atmosphere. Los Angeles is a harsh and cruel city. Also, this is an increasingly complex scenario. And as the police and federal agents try to uncover the identity of a brutal mystery killer, the plot plays on the idea of menace. Unlike subsequent parts of the franchise, this time the Predator is a sinister creature that moves in the shadows. And that when he finally reveals his identity, she is removed from the usual ostentatious view of her inexplicable nature.
There is something almost dystopian about the episodes that allows the alien to show his killer potential. The city, glowing, scorched and tense, is a character in itself. But especially this story gains weight to the extent that it is perceived as a reconstruction of an unimaginable danger. Its highest point.
Predator: Prey (2022)
The newest addition to the franchise also the one with the most brilliant performance, best screenplay and a heightened sense of mystery. Director Dan Trachtenberg managed to move the scene of a mythical confrontation with a larger and more human predator into new spaces. And to do this, based on the subtext of the horror genre. The result is a bold premise that far surpasses any of the most recent in the series. Also a breath of fresh air that surprises with its storytelling ability.
When a creature encounters Comanche warriors, it must first match up with its hunter peers. But even more interesting, with a version of the threat that will put him face to face with opponents who are difficult to defeat.
The film, well directed and better solved on a cinematic level than most of the franchise, is in direct debt to suspense. However, there is also a good dose of action, allowing you to reconstruct the battle between the two races from intelligence. An unexpected addition to productions of this kind.
predator (1987)
Undoubtedly the best, most complete, best performed and witty of all the films in the saga. Directed by John McTiernan creates an unsettling scene for your being, but doesn’t make it obvious. In fact, at the first stage, the film exactly corresponds to the principle of an action movie. A group of tough soldiers face the jungle, with all its dangers and mysteries. Of course, it is clear that something else is hiding. However, the presence isn’t obvious, and the script doesn’t immediately squander its identity.
With star Arnold Schwarzenegger in his prime, the scenario depends on his strength. The group that accompanies him begins a journey on a mission that will soon turn into something more violent. Predator is a monster but also a ghostly threat which is connected with primitive fears and even with superstitions.
Precisely because, although the production belongs to the action genre, it has enough intuition not to miss the opportunity to delve into its creation. In all its strangeness, cruelty and sophistication. To do so with precision and a sense of dread, which makes the film the best in a long saga and a model for the rest of the films it spawned.
