Sony wants iPhone users to get the most out of PS Remote Play, the company’s platform for playing PlayStation games on mobile devices. The Japanese firm has teamed up with accessories maker BackBone to launch a device that aims to do more than just improve the aforementioned app. Also, to offer an experience similar to what we would get playing on one of the brand’s consolesbut anywhere. This is about PlayStation version of Backbone One.

Already available in countries such as Mexico, Spain and the US, this new Sony accessory is inspired in some ways by the DualSense, the PlayStation 5 controller. Yes, it does so with a design adapted to the different models of iPhone available. In particular, Backbone One PlayStation Edition has an expandable hole in the center, allowing you to dock from iphone 13 minithe most compact iPhone model, up to iPhone 13 Max; largest model. It also has a slightly more distinctive aesthetic than Backbone accessories, with two traditional joysticks and rounded knobs.

But there is an interesting change: buttons instead of characteristic letters (A, B, Y, X), they have shapes that Sony includes in their controls (X, triangle, circle and square). This allows games available on PS Remote Play to be fully compatible, a platform that, as we remember, makes it possible to play video games available on PlayStation from the smartphone itself. Therefore, it is logical that Backbone made a bet on the classic Sony keyboard. In fact, games can display recommendations and tutorials based on the actions that can be performed through various icons. For example, by pressing the triangle to pick up an item.

The Sony Backbone One PlayStation Edition is compatible with every platform available on the iPhone.

As noted The VergeSony Backbone One PlayStation Edition also supports third party platforms. Among them are Apple Arcade (a subscription service of the Cupertino company), Xbox Game Pass and Stadia. The buttons, yes, may not match the actions of the game, so the user must first check what each key is for.

The Sony Backbone One PlayStation Edition, in addition to the classic buttons, also includes shortcuts to some PS Remote Play options such as image capture. This device is available in Spain at a price of 100 euros. In Mexico it is available for 2990 pesos and can be purchased from the BackBone online store. In any case, BackBone also sells a similar controller for the same price. In addition, it is also compatible with iPhone and even other Android devices, and does not include the classic Sony button bar, but traditional letters. It is also an alternative to Razer’s Kishi V2.
