Samsung may be ditching its Exynos processors in its upcoming flagships and switching to MediaTek chips, according to a recent rumor from BusinessKorea. The move would allow the South Korean company to compete with the most powerful processors from Qualcomm and Apple, as their own SoCs don’t offer the same level of performance despite the firm’s efforts to improve its latest GPU with AMD. . It also reduces the cost of producing their smartphones.
Samsung has been including MediaTek processors in some of its entry-level and mid-range smartphones for some time now. However, the high-end has always been equipped with American Qualcomm chips or Exynos processors, depending on the market in which the device is sold. In this case, it is expected that only part of Galaxy S23 – probably intended for the Asian market – sold with MediaTek SoC. The rest, on the other hand, may come with Qualcomm’s latest chip. The same strategy applies to Galaxy S22FE.
At the moment, it is not known which processors will make it to the two smartphones that Samsung may announce later this year or early 2023. However, everything indicates that the company could bet on Dimension 8100 and Dimension 9000 (or later versions). Both SoCs, in fact, showed excellent results. They even outperform Samsung’s most powerful chip, and in some cases even Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 1.

Size 9000, on the other hand, outperforms the A15 Bionic chip in terms of performance per watt in 3DMark benchmarks, ranking it 79 points higher. The same goes for the Snapdragon 8 gen 1, which is 144 points below the aforementioned MediaTek SoC. Finally, the Dimensty 9000 beats the Exynos 2200 by 166 points more.
Samsung, on the other hand, is also working on developing exclusive chips for its smartphones. These, unlike Exynos, which are available from any manufacturer, will only be installed on select Galaxy models, much like Apple and Google do with their own SoCs.
