The Witcher’s new title follows the 2015 launch of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, but instead of continuing the saga, it becomes a separate title, always linked to the franchise. Through a blogspot, CD Projekt Red stated:
We are excited to announce the development of a new The Witcher title, which will be the start of a new saga of the franchise. This is an exciting time for us, given the transition from REDengine to Unreal Engine 5 and the beginning of a multi-strategic partnership with Epic Games. It will not only be about licensing, but both the technical developments of Unreal Engine 5 and future versions of Unreal Engine will be relevant. We’ve partnered with the developers at Epic Games to create amazing open world experiences.
