Researchers from NUST MISiS, BSTU. VG Shukhov and NICEM them. NF Gamaleyas are working on a robotic system that will reduce the risk of errors and speed up laboratory blood tests.

A blood test is one of the most common types of medical research. One of its steps is to pour the liquid from the primary tube into several other tubes after centrifugation. A pipette for collecting blood for analysis must be immersed at different depths depending on the level of the boundaries between the fractions. This procedure is often fraught with errors, and very serious – up to a misdiagnosis.

The system developed by Russian scientists based on a neural network using artificial vision with 98% accuracy determines the boundaries between serum fractions in a test tube and their nature. After that, the algorithm calculates the depth at which the straw should be immersed. The blood serum sampling error is less than half a millimeter.

The researchers plan to complete the system by adding two more robots: one will move a test tube containing the biomaterial in and out of the work area, and the other will take the plasma and pour it into the test tubes.
