A intelligence announced this Thursday (15) A change in terminology for 14th generation Meteor Lake processors. CPUs will remove the classic “i” prefix, and the change marks the first name change in over 15 years.
With the arrival of the new processor family, The company aims to facilitate the understanding of the general public.and better distinguish the Meteor Lake line from previously released products. According to Caitlin Anderson, Vice President and Divisional Manager of Computing Sales, the change is “better suited to our product strategy.”
CPUs will keep the default enumeration. It targets 3 entry models, 5 interprocessors, 7 high performance processors and 9 most powerful versions available. The difference is that the letter “i” will no longer be used. This way models will be named Intel Core 5+ identifier number, for example Intel Core 5 14600K.
This change will take effect from the release of Meteor Lake processors later this year and will continue to apply to future releases. Launched in 2022, the 13th generation will continue with the traditional Intel Core i format.
New Intel Core processor series
A new product line has also been added to Intel’s portfolio. Some CPUs are called Intel Core Ultra. Ultra sets premium processors in several families, representing the most advanced technologies of that generation. However, at the time of publication of this article, there are no details about the differences Ultra will bring to consumers.
Intel Evo and Meteor Lake
The Intel Evo series is undergoing a minor change, and will be called Intel Evo™ Edition. In practice, nothing should change, and laptops bearing this seal continue to meet criteria such as high performance, portability and good energy autonomy.
Intel Meteor Lake processors strong gain in productivity compared to previous generations. Besides, Artificial Intelligence issue should get a lot of attentionmainly due to the fact that it is the first generation with a dedicated AI unit, making the models interesting for professional use.
Production will be done by Intel 4 process with an architecture based on 7 nanometer lithography and chipsets from extreme ultraviolet light. Previous information from the company indicates that this will result in a 20% increase in the products’ earnings per watt.
For now, there is no concrete date for the launch of Meteor Lake processors, but considering previous years, the models are likely to be released from October.
