Vadim Pokrovsky, Head of the Department of Biochemistry at RUDN University, said that benzene, which causes cancer when cooked on the stove, is not produced in sufficient quantities for the development of oncological diseases.
Benzene, like its derivatives, is a carcinogen. Its long-term effect on the body is associated with oncological diseases, including various types of lymphoma and leukemia.
However, the scientist notes that all components of ordinary natural gas are usually low atomic. Pokrovsky emphasizes that there are not enough atoms there to form benzene.
Earlier, American scientists showed that when gas stoves work, a significant amount of benzene is released into the air.
