SpaceX has effectively become a global monopoly in the rocket launch market, writes The Wall Street Journal.

Satellite operators and measurements most often turn to SpaceX to put satellites into orbit. This was made possible thanks to a large fleet of reusable rockets that are more efficient than the participants, and their launches are cheaper.

In the first six months of 2023, SpaceX completed 21 launches for its customers, or 64% of the total number of flights worldwide.

SpaceX has also raised prices for space launches. Last year, launching one kilogram of payload cost $5,000, and this year it’s already $6,500.

According to Deutsche Bank, the global market for all rocket launches is estimated at $8 billion in 2022. It is expected that by 2025 it will grow to $13 billion. [The Wall Street Journal]
