MTS closed the Marvin voice assistant project and began testing a new assistant. It will take a company a long time to make a quality product.
The new voice assistant during the presentation successfully turned on the lamp, the robot vacuum cleaner and carried out other commands, Vedomosti reported.
- At the end of 2019, MTS first announced the release of a smart speaker with a voice assistant. In the summer of 2020, the operator introduced the Marvin voice assistant. It was planned to be integrated into MTS portable smart speakers, which they wanted to distribute to subscribers for a nominal fee of 1 ruble.
- In early 2021, Arkady Sandler, curator of the smart speaker, director of the company’s artificial intelligence (AI) center, left the company. Then they said that the project faced technological difficulties that affected the timing of the device’s release. There have been no releases of the project since then.
- In March 2023, the head of MTS Vyacheslav Nikolaev announced that the company is working on its own voice assistant and hopes to launch a column with its support.
Experts doubt that smart devices and a voice assistant from MTS can grab a significant market share today. To make a product at the level of Alice (Yandex), you need to invest millions of dollars, they say.
