Sources Wall Street Journal The electric car maker’s board is said to have opened an investigation over concerns that Musk could use company funds to build a home near the Gigafactory in Austin. Dubbed “Project 42”, the initiative is believed to involve a multi-million dollar purchase of specialty glass. Limited companies associated with Musk and his executives are also known to have bought large amounts of land in the area.
Concepts for the house included a “twisted hexagon” or glass cube, reminiscent of the Apple store on 5th Avenue. According to insiders, it was a private space as it included bedrooms, bathrooms and a kitchen.
The board wanted to know if Musk was involved and if workers were wasting their time at home. bloomberg I learned about the glass order last year, but I didn’t know about the side or the nature of Project 42.
