A hacking chatbot called WormGPT can’t match the capabilities of regular ChatGPT as its database is limited to only the information available until 2021. This information was reported by Mikhail Seregin, head of the Center for Information Security at Innopolis University.
WormGPT is a chatbot that uses the GPTJ language model (similar to GPT-2) and spreads among hackers and scammers in the dark corners of the internet. Its main purpose is to generate malicious code, phishing texts, and search for prohibited information such as links to drug or weapons trading platforms.
Seregin explained that WormGPT has far fewer features than regular ChatGPT and does not contain censorship algorithms. The chatbot has been trained on malicious data and aims to make money in the dark corners of the web. It is capable of generating phishing emails or small pieces of malicious code, but is not suitable for more complex tasks. Some of the information WormGPT provides may be out of date as its database has been updated to 2021 and most of the marketplaces it lists have been closed by law enforcement. According to Seregin, this hacker chatbot has no future development as the cybercriminal community cannot afford to invest big money in the project as usual with ChatGPT. Such AI models require large investments that only pay off in the long run, and they are not suitable for the quick money making schemes that criminals usually embark on.
